Carlos Romero Bio:
Clinton Frame has been home to Carlos Romero and his family for more than 25 years. Carlos began attending Clinton Frame in 1993, and over the years, the congregation has become an important and deeply meaningful part of the lives of Carlos, his wife, Celina, and their children, Elise and Cristian, who were both born and raised in the Clinton Frame community. Celina and Carlos are members of the Friendship Crusaders Sunday school class.
Carlos grew up in Puerto Rico and attended a Mennonite school in San Juan. It was there that Mennonite teachers and voluntary service workers introduced him to Anabaptist teachings and helped shape his journey of faith and his Anabaptist identity. Throughout his life, Carlos has had the privilege of serving the church in many different ways, both within the Mennonite Church in the United States and internationally. In 1998-99, Carlos and his family participated in a short-term mission opportunity in Spain. At Clinton Frame, Carlos has served as an elder, chair of the Elder Board, youth sponsor, and in many other committees and area of congregational life.
Professionally, much of Carlos' life has been devoted to ministry, education, leadership, and service. His ministry and leadership experiences have included serving as a denominational youth minister and youth convention coordinator, Executive Director of Mennonite Education Agency, and Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students at Goshen College. Since 2019, he has served in leadership roles in senior living. Carlos has also served on and chaired numerous boards and brings experience in governance, leadership development, organizational growth, and helping organizations strengthen the systems that support their mission.
Carlos has always believed that when the church asks us to serve, our response should be, "How can I help?" He feels humbled and grateful to be considered for the role of chair-elect. For Carlos, this is not simply another leadership position - it is an opportunity to give back to a congregation that has given so much to him and his family. He loves Clinton Frame and is deeply grateful for the people, relationships, faith, and experiences that have shaped his family through this church. Carlos is passionate about seeing Clinton Frame continue to be a welcoming and vibrant community that follows Jesus, cares for one another, and shares the Good News with our community and beyond. He believes that good leadership, healthy relationships, and effective systems can help the church be more faithful and effective in living out its calling. Most of all, he strongly believes that the message of Jesus and the Good News of the Gospel are things that our world desperately needs.
If given the opportunity to serve as chair-elect, Carlos looks forward to listening, learning, working together, and discerning God's direction with the board and congregation as we seek to faithfully follow where God is leading Clinton Frame.
